As a Bookseller, you are an integral member of the bookselling team, welcoming customers in a cheerful and helpful way, answering questions, and connecting readers with the right titles and products. You also help maintain the store’s attractive presentation and support its efficient running. You will be trained and expected to be proficient in: Using varied technology, including registers, computers, tablets, and programs. Developing strong merchandising skills to maintain book presentation and cleanliness. Developing effective visual merchandising skills for gifting, toys, and other product categories. Running a register competently to serve customers quickly and reliably. Supporting the receiving and unpacking of deliveries, and accurate shelving. Finding books and products with ease and accuracy using knowledge tools. Supporting the café team when needed. Understanding loss prevention procedures and de‑escalation techniques. Performing physical activities such as prolonged standing, bending, lifting, and walking. Responsibilities Maintain reliable and punctual attendance for scheduled shifts. Fill scheduling gaps when possible, showing flexibility and responsiveness. Approach work positively and with energy, performing tasks reliably. Support and consider colleagues, helping others and showing kindness. Be cheerful with customers and go out of your way to help them. Show aptitude and willingness to learn new skills and store knowledge. Develop knowledge of subjects and categories across fiction, nonfiction, and children’s books. Use this knowledge to maintain sections and present books attractively. Make effective book recommendations to customers. Learn to sell books positively and support sales objectives such as Monthly Picks, Book of the Year, Membership, preorders, etc. Build knowledge and expertise in Educational Toys and Games, Specialty Games, Hobby and Collectibles, music, movies, and newsstand. Maintain all sections and backstock effectively, helping customers shop. Support success of key sales objectives, products, and new releases. Comply with all company policies and procedures.
