Assists residents with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, transfers, meals, and other daily living activities while encouraging independence. Participates in behavioral expression meetings and collaborates with community leadership. Knows the resident's life story, preferences, routines and interests. Serves meals in the dining room and may assist in preparing dementia-friendly menus. Initiates and leads daily engagement programs and encourages social interaction. Maintains resident records daily, including medication distribution, engagement interests, incidents, and observations per policy. Assists with medication administration if permitted by state regulations, following physician orders and medication policies. Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly environment through general housekeeping. Follows proper procedures in emergency situations and responds to resident requests for assistance. Monitors the location of each resident and notifies the supervisor if a resident is not located. Encourages teamwork through cooperative interactions with co-workers. Qualifications High school diploma or GED and 3–6 months related experience preferred; training in direct service with older adults living with dementia or equivalent education/experience. Knowledge of dementia, particularly of the Alzheimer's type. May need current state certification and adherence to state regulations for medication assistance and direct care duties. Physical demands include standing, walking, sitting, use of hands and fingers, reaching, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling; ability to lift up to 50 pounds; occasional weekend, evening or night work if needed. Management/Decision making: makes routine decisions based on detailed guidelines with limited independent judgment. Knowledge and skills: basic level of skill, following written or verbal instructions, basic technical skills, ability to read, write and communicate effectively with residents, family members and associates.
