A Medical Assistant I performs routine clerical and clinical tasks within the clinic, assisting Physicians and other licensed providers to provide cost effective, quality patient care. Shift Details: PRN (as needed). Unit/Location: Garfield Memorial Clinic. Performs basic clerical and office duties including assembling necessary documents and supplies, effectively using computer applications, scheduling and coordinating appointments, maintaining medical records and inventory of supplies. Performs business and financial duties including assigning procedural and diagnostic coding, conducting pre-authorizations and referrals, facilitating timely billing. Performs clinical functions including triaging patient needs, recognizing emergency situations, preparing examination areas, performing intake processes, administering screening tests, assisting providers with examinations and treatments, providing patient education, reporting significant changes in patient condition, following provider instructions for pharmacy refills and lab results, and participating in quality improvement initiatives. Minimum qualifications vary by Medical Assistant level (I, II, III) and include Basic Life Support Certification, competency assessments, and experience or education requirements. Physical requirements include ability to see and read information, communicate effectively, manual dexterity, lifting and transferring patients and supplies, walking and standing for extended periods.
