Position Summary: Provides overall medical leadership and direction in the operation and expansion of the Primary Care Practice site. Responsible for the medical care rendered to patients, the medical content of programs and the implementation of medical services provided. Assists Practice Management in determining strategic business direction of the site and in all phases of department activities, including financial viability of the practice site. Facilitates teamwork and common direction at the practice site and within the Pediatric Practice Physician Group. Coordinates activity within the practice site with partnering providers to assure care is continuously provided to the community. Collaborates with Pediatricians/Physician 's Assistants on-site and within the Pediatric Practice Group. Supervises clinical support activities of office nurses, and clinical secretaries.

Required Job Specific Competencies: Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to those patients served in an office, hospital or other setting. This includes demonstration of knowledge and principles of growth and development over a life span. S/he must have the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status, interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to her/his age-specific needs and provide the necessary care. The nurse practitioner must have knowledge of, and exhibit documentation within guidelines for, patient specific information for the medical record, the encounter form for visits, and prescriptive requisitions. Demonstrates the ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with office staff, Pediatricians, Physician's Assistants, medical specialists, management and administration. Exhibits leadership skills through active involvement in and ownership of process improvements leading to delivery and maintenance of quality services while striving to achieve financial viability of the practice site. Actively guards the confidentiality of sensitive information including but not limited to the patients, staff and the health system.

Qualifications:

  • NYS Licensure and current Registration Required
  • DEA Licensure Required
  • Board Eligible in Pediatrics Required; Board Certified Preferred

Education:

  • Graduation from an accredited Nursing School Required
  • Completion of Internship (General Medical) and Residency in Pediatrics Required
  • Knowledge of Practice Management and CPT and ICD-10 Coding Preferred Maintains CME per requirements for Board Certification

Experience:

  • 1-3 years in Pediatrics (office and hospital care) Preferred

  • Requires independent action, use of clinical judgment and decision making, creativity, innovation, Resourcefulness & planning in medical management of patient care, practice operations, and Financial viability.
  • Provide effective, equitable, understandable and respectful quality care and services that are responsive to diverse cultural health beliefs and practices, preferred languages, health literacy and other communication needs.

Contact with others:

  • Close daily contact with patients, their families, physicians, student nurses and instructors, Hospital and office associates and visitors.
  • Routinely interacts with hospital, physician and provider community in coordination of patient care.
  • Routinely interacts with Practice Management for support and operations assistance.

Working Conditions/Hazards:

  • Works in well-lighted, well-ventilated areas, may be subject to temperature variables.
  • Frequently exposed to unpleasant sights, sounds, odors, human excrement and drainage, etc.
  • Exposed to emotional and psychological stresses associated with the care of the hospitalized and/or dying patients.
  • May be exposed to communicable disease or infections.
  • May be subject to physical strain or minor injury.
  • Stands and walks most of the day; bends, works in reaching or strained positions, pushes, pulls, lifts and carries medium to heavy weights intermittently throughout the day.
  • Must be able to carry out all of the above responsibilities with no physical limitations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The nurse practitioner shall provide medical care that includes, but is not limited to, medical evaluation and treatment of acute and episodic illness or injury, and performs necessary medical tests and procedures.
  • In addition to hospital rounding, the nurse practitioner provides an average 32 hours of direct patient care in the office setting and additional time For charting as required by volume and work load.
  • The nurse practitioner maintains accurate and up-to-date signed documentation of care or procedures in each patient's medical record per regulatory guidelines.
  • Encounters are completed and diagnoses accurately coded for each patient visit to the appropriate level of detail.
  • The nurse practitioner shall participate in a call rotation with other physicians specializing in Pediatrics as coordinated by physicians at the site of practice.
